Porsche 911

It is not unusual to spot classic cars whilst walking around the Notting Hill-Holland Park area. Last Saturday was no different. I spotted an old Porsche 911 in Portobello Road.

Fading away in the fog

On Saturday West London woke up covered in the fog so I ventured to the nearby Walpole Park in Ealing to take a couple of pictures with my Fujifilm X-T3.

Making Fan Ho proud

How was your Christmas weekend? Mine was a bit unusual. Both Saturday and Sunday I ventured out in the city centre to take some pictures with my Fujifilm X-T3 camera.

There weren’t many people in central London on Boxing Day. I got off the tube at Tottenham Court Road and moved towards the new exit. I stayed there for some 15 minutes waiting for human being to show up. In my mind I had a black and white picture of the new escalator with one person on it. Unfortunately, nobody showed up so I had to settle for this Fan Ho-inspired moody shot (FYI, Fan Ho was one of the most influential black and white street photographers of the 20th century).

On Sunday, I wondered around the City, walking from Chancery Lane to London Wall and then to Liverpool Street where I met up with a friend who is also into photography. From there, we went to Brick Lane and then Shoreditch/Hoxton. As we met up relatively late, the sun started to set as we got to Shoreditch and therefore there was not much to photograph. Only one picture is worth sharing from the session…

Fog in W5

I grew up in Milan, a place known for its foggy mornings in the winter months. Unfortunately, with time the phenomenon has become less frequent. London was also known for its fog. Once again, I have not seen much of it. Blame it on climate change. Blame it on the rain. Blame it on whatever… The thing is this 2020 is a year like no other and guess what? The fog is back.

Over the past ten days, London has woken up covered in mist and fog. Unfortunately, the combination of “working from home” and unsociable working hours meant I never really had the chance of taking a snapshot of it. However, this morning I ran out of bread so I ventured out to my local bakery and on the way back I positioned my camera and tripod in the middle of the road (it is a pedestrian/residential area) and clicked the shutter. In fairness, it hardly required any post editing as colours were pretty much black and white…

Playstation PS5

πŸ”΄πŸ”ΊοΈβš€βŽ JUST in time for the arrival of Sony’sl PlayStation PS5 console today, signage at London’s Oxford Circus has been updated with the console’s trademark square, circle, triangle and cross. Unfortunately, the normal signage is expected to be reinstated on Saturday morning.

All pictures were taken with my FUJIFILM X-T3 camera and Fujinon XC 50-230mm lens. All images are straight out of the camera with very minor edits.

Foggy morning in Porto – view from Dom Luis I Bridge

My closest friends know that every year – typically at the end of October – I select 12 photographs I shot during the previous twelve months and stick them in a table calendar as a little Christmas gift. As part of the selection process, at the beginning of October I start reviewing the pictures I published on social media with the intention of narrowing down the best (or most meaningful) 15-20 shots before making the final call on which ones make the final cut. As you may have noticed, I have taken a few photographs since upgrading to the Fujifilm x-series cameras and therefore I have a lot of unprocessed pictures on my memory card that have not even been exported to my laptop.

The picture below is one of those. I shot it in Porto on Christmas Eve 2019. It was a foggy morning and I decided to go for a walk whilst waiting for my sister to get ready for breakfast. I actually took two pictures that morning as I was approaching the iconic Dom Luis I Bridge. On paper it had all the right ingredients to be an epic picture: the fog was rising and breaking through the bridge; a tram and a woman were also approaching, as well as a seagull was flying over the bridge. And guess what? I published that picture both here and on social media thinking that was a bloody good picture.

A couple of minutes later I decided to start crossing the bridge and take another photograph. I stopped. I pressed the shutter and then moved on. End of story.

As a matter of fact I actually forgot taking that picture at all until earlier this evening when I was browsing my memory card looking for any decent shot I may have taken and left behind. The original photograph was taken in colour with my old Fujifilm X-T20 (I have only recently upgraded to the X-T3) and subsequently edited in Lightroom using one of my own custom-made black and white presets.

Needless to say this one will feature my 2021 table calendar…
